From 2018 to 2020, I have collaborated with the music band PIVOT creating the visual imagery used for their live shows.
PIVOT is an electronic music band that composes its entire repertoire live by improvising each concert using musical sign language. In other words, the music of each concert is (by definition) something that is created in the moment and never repeated after the show. Conducted by a rotating musical director, the band collectively improvises each ‘song’, which makes each one of PIVOT’s shows unique and unrepeatable.
To create synergy with the group, I created a new set of visuals specific to their live shows, which would maintain the essence of the group and add one more layer to the show. Thus, the visuals are created live thanks to a program made by me,using Unity 3D, and show in a circular narrative the key concepts of the group: humanization of technology, nature, creation and travel among others.
To emphasize and give importance to live creation and the sign language used for the composition of live songs, the concert includes a 3D camera that records the director of each piece in real time, and includes him in the imaginary world created for each composition.
The set then functions as a unique virtual world that I travel through each show in a different way, following both the director’s signs and letting myself
be guided by the sounds created, working as a camera operator, who focuses on details of the world at the rhythm of the music. Adding audio-reactive elements,
others of generative graphics, interaction and management of hundreds of parameters within the program, it is achieved that, as happens with the music, the visuals
are always different in each show.
